Session 4 - July 12, 2020

Page history last edited by Bolthy 3 years, 9 months ago

Session begins April 28 (a Friday)

A pair of siblings inherited a house from their aunt in Sequim, and it appears to be haunted. They hire the group to investigate. They will need to leave early the next day to get to the house. The siblings are Amos and Vivian Hagen.

The house is on the waterfront, has beach access, a little dock. Early 20th century farm-house vibe. Their aunts were their father's sisters and still lived in the house. Passed away in their 50s on the same day.

Frankie asks them what they've seen and heard so far. So far it's mostly been eerie noises, which they are certain is not just old house noises. They are usually after dark. There's a rocking chair that moves on its own close to sunset. Some items have fallen off of shelves and walls, which they think are not due to the cat.

There's no temporal or spatial disturbances, and the only other mind present is Buttercup the cat, a 15 year old feline that came with the house. No sign of magic.

Frankie scans the siblings' surface thoughts are that they are dubious about the group that has shown up. With some mild mental compulsion, the siblings are convinced to leave.

While examining the rocking chair, Astrid's haunting ghost (Ada) looks down at it and says "this is a fine pickle you've gotten yourself into." The ghost says its one of the most spiritually devoid places she's ever seen. It's been "cleaned", but it was some time ago.

Frankie looks at the place through spirit goggles and sees nothing. Tamara rolls back time and shares with the others. When things fall off the walls there's a mechanical whirring noise. When the aunts were alive, one mostly sat in the chair with the cat. The other puttered about.

Two months after the aunts died, some contractors came in to start fixing things up. The contractors hung up the pictures more securely. Two months before the aunts died (seven months prior) in poorly tailored suits with some paperwork to try and get the aunts to sell the house.

Frankie uses Matter to try and find hidden devices, but finds nothing. The only thing that stands out are hidden speakers about the size of a paperback. Hugo traces the wiring down to the cellar that is accessible from the outside.

In the unfinished cellar, the wiring goes down into a PVC pipe which then goes north. Looking back in time, it was installed about three months prior.

Following the pipe, there's a campground with some cabins and tents. Ultimately leads to the administration building. Frankie distracts the woman up front. Hugo and Astrid sneak inside the back when someone leaves out the back. The person who leaves out the back looks like one of the contractors. Tamara stands watch.

Inside the back room, there is a rudimentary PA system that has a lot of speaker wire coming up. Hugo transmutes some paper into a "photograph" of the PA system.

When the guy comes back, Tamara loudly distracts him. Frankie lures the front desk person out for a tour of the campground to allow the others to sneak out the front door.

The group goes back to the house. The group determines that the cat in the house is not the original cat. They talk to the cat and find out that the previous cat was taken away in a van and this is a feral cat.

The group suspects that the house may also have microphones built into the speaker.

The group goes downtown. Astrid and Frankie for the funeral home, Hugo and Tamara for the cafe where the siblings are at. The aunts were technically found on the same day, but one of the aunts probably died 1-3 days before the other. The other wasn't mobile so had no one to tend to her needs. The first had a stroke, and the other probably had a stroke with underlying circumstances.

The Colberts, who run the campground, had made no secret of their interest in the Hagen property. The Hagen sisters were elderly when the 50 year old was a child, even though they were only in their 30s. A visitor for the funeral, an elderly man insists that the Hagen sisters were his teacher when he was young. The Hagen sibling's father (the sisters' brother) was a few years younger than the Hagen sisters.

Tamara and Hugo meet with the siblings at the coffee shop and learn about the same information, in addition to the names of people who have made offers on the house.

They go back and go through some photo albums, and see that the aunts were indeed ancient but were children at one point. In the photos there is a strange man who is not related to the aunts and does not age at all. The group cannot tell what he is beyond "probably not a vampire." Tamara tries to scry on the man,  but he notices and talks to her because he is angered that someone would scry on him.

The man sends a cat to stare at the house and transmit info. Tamara and Astrid talk to the cat, and Astrid tries to make a deal with the cat's master for ongoing services. The cat explains that the chair expands and contracts with temperature, which causes it to rock.

The siblings come back and the group explains what the Colberts were doing. They spend the night and stage some audio theater to make the Colberts think that they overheard a murder.
